Technical details

  • carrier board for two NVIDIA Jetson TX1 compute modules
  • standalone or rack mount in Ross openGear frame

  • Molex power connector may be routed horizontally (430450400) or vertically

Each TX1 module has the following peripherals:

  • M.2 key B 2242 slots (SATA) for inexpensive SSDs
  • M.2 key M 2280 slots (4x PCIe) for extreme performance SSDs
  • micro SD card
  • 2 USB3 type A connectors (on the left)
  • 1 USB2 type A connector (on the bottom left)
  • UART 0 (3.3V TTL) – debug port – 6 pin (with RTS and CTS)
  • UART 2 (3.3V TTL) – 4 pin
  • 2 SPI (3.3V) – 9 pin (one SPI bus plus two select lines)
  • 1 I2C (3.3V) – 4 pin
  • 2 CAN – 4 pins each
  • JTAG header – 9 pin 
  • fan connector – 4 pin 
  • socket for the B100 HDMI to CSI-2 bridge (HDMI in up to 1080p60) – on the upper right
  • extra 40 pin connector with 2 additional CSI-2 (4 lanes each) and 8 channel I2S digital audio for 4k video input module
  • display port – on the lower right
  • 100 pin extension connector for the second TX1 module – three CSI-2 interfaces (4 lanes each), I2S audio with 8 channels and display port
  • RJ45 Gb Ethernet and eDP of both TX1 (on add-on module on the left above USB connectors – J22) – like the 38196

TX1 Interconnect

The two TX1 modules may communicate via 3 communication links:

  • low speed interface via onboard CAN connection (1 Mbit)
  • high speed Gigabit Ethernet interface via external Gigabit switch (1000 Mbit)
  • ultra high speed via 4 lane PCIe interconnect (approx. 10 Gbit) – by connecting the two M.2 key M slots (to be developed)

CAN

The TX1 does not feature a CAN bus (yet). So the J200 has 2 SPI to CAN converters each. It uses the Microchip MCP2515T. The CAN of both TX1 are connected together so that the TX1s could communicate via CAN. CAN2 is also connected to the openGear mid plane. CAN 1 and CAN 2 may connect to an external CAN bus via the PicoBlade connectors. They are internally terminated. They can supply up to 400mA of 5V power to external CAN devices.

38196 Ethernet add-on module

In the picture above the 1000B-T Ethernet add-on module is shown. It plugs into the network extension connector on the left and provides 2 RJ45 connectors for connection to Gigabit Ethernet. Optionally the 2 RJ45 connectors may not be populated and the 2 9 pin PicoBlade connectors may be used to connect to externally mounted RJ45 connectors.

openGear

Ross has developed a standard 19″ 2RU chassis for the installation of up to 10 double height or 20 single height cards. With the addition of a special openGear add-on module the J200 with 2 TX1 compute modules may be inserted in the openGear chassis. This adds a very high performance compute platform to openGear. As the J200 occupies a double height slot, up to 10 of the J200 may be installed in this chassis. So up to 20 TX1s in 2RU. This is the theoretical limit. It will be tested as soon as the J200 and the accompanying openGear add-on module will become available. The openGear add-on module is installed in the network extension connector on the left. It features 1000B-T to 1000B-X conversion to connect to the Gigabit Ethernet on the mid plane of the openGear chassis.

  • on display at the NVIDIA booth at the Embedded World show in Nuremberg

Pricing

Pricing has not been set yet. The price for the modules for beta customers is €999 net plus VAT. This includes the 38195 and 38196. If you are interested to become a beta customer please let us know.
